MONTICELLO, AR — Dr. Joe Guenter, assistant professor emeritus of physics at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, recently became the first recipient of the Paul R. Carter Professional Achievement Award for his years of service to both the university and the UAM chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.
The award is named for the late Paul R. Carter, a UAM graduate, a member of Sigma Tau Gamma, and former chief financial officer for Walmart.
He served as Province Governor for all Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity chapters in Arkansas and received the Grubbs Chapter Advisor Award.
Guenter is married to the former Helen Burson, associate librarian at UAM, and is a member of the Monticello Rotary Club, the board of directors of the Arkansas Superior Federal Credit Union, the Monticello Music Club, the Drew County Historical Society, and First Presbyterian Church.
The late Paul Carter served Walmart in a number of capacities. He was executive vice president of Walmart Stores, president of Walmart’s real estate division, and chairman of the board of Walmart Realty.
